Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Useful Ruler This ruler is super useful for crafts or office uses. The brushed stainless rule is sturdy, the edges straight and flat, it is ruled in both inches and metric. The smallest division marks are 1/16 in. and 1mm, so it's really handy for rough measurements or a quick conversion between inches and centimeters. The cork on the back is great for placing flat on a desk surface without sliding or scratching. There is a hole near one end for hanging on a peg or hook to keep this handy when needed. I currently keep it near my 3d printer, and find the metric rule most useful for that.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Straight edge, engraved markings Good for light crafts and delicate work. The edge is straight, the ruler is thin, and you can use it on flat or cylindrical surfaces. You can get close to your work and cut or mark where you intend to. The markings are recessed, and the contrast color is imbedded below the surface. The markings should last a while. The ruler has a cork backing. This helps you keep the ruler in place on smooth surfaces. The corners are rounded to reduce snag potential. One observation was that the product sticker on the bottom was adhered to the cork and difficult to remove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy To Read!!! For starters, I have a couple of stainless-steel rulers and this one comes out on top. First, the numbers are so clear and easy to read on this ruler. Secondly, it's great for using it as a straight edge to cut using a utility knife. Finally, it doesn't bend out of shape after a couple of uses. My other brand rulers are so bent out of shape that I can't use it for a straight edge. Compared to this ruler, I wasted money on the other brands. I would definitely recommend this ruler to people who craft or need a trusting straight edge with accurate measurements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Will Become My Standard 12 Inch Ruler I like this ruler very much; it is a nice ruler. The features that I find to be the most value for me are: there is additional spacing at each end so that the graduations are not at the end of the ruler, making the ruler more accurate than other rulers I have; the graduations are cut into the metal of the ruler, not just marked or painted in some manner. Another thing I find interesting is that most of the spacings are graduated in eighths and the 0 to 1 spacing has sixteenth spacings.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice metal ruler It’s a ruler :) Metal vs plastic/wood gives it a few more points, plus the cork backing helps it stay in place while using - I use for crafting type activities. The corners aren’t sharp/pointy, and it’s sturdy enough for my needs (ie has flex but isn’t floppy). Measurements are easy to read.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than wood or plastic The ruler is opaque so unlike some plastic rulers I can read the measurements easily no matter what color surface it is sitting on. Much easier to read than a wood ruler. The thin cork backing elevates it just enough to make it easy to pick up. A good basic desk ruler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Measure The ruler is heavy duty, will not bend. Easy to use, durable, children and everyone can use it. It has centimeters and inches which can be used to measure almost anything. We yse thus outside as well as inside. Great guft for someone in the wood working business.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Ruler Very stylish ruler. I like the hole at the end of it. It allows you to hang it places. Measurement was correct. I like the back of the ruler. Not sure the material of it. It gives it a nice look. The stainless steel is very nice. It is lightweight. Quality ruler.

Do you have an accuracy/tolerance specification for this rule?

Asked by: eal1
Westcott stainless steel rulers are marketed as home-and-office products. When they are used in a manufacturing setting in place of rulers that are specifically manufactured and marketed as being "scientific rulers" (costing much more), it is up to the customer to perform a reliability study from a sampling of our rulers and decide if they will meet their compliance needs. Requirements do vary by Industry, which is why we direct the customer to decide on the suitability of our rulers on their own.

What alloy of stainless is this rule? I want to peel the cork back off and clean off the paint then use it in a stainless reagent tank to measure level. The alloy is critical because we do not want to set up a galvanic reaction with the tank. Thanks!

Asked by: Henry
The alloy is AISI 420 stainless steel (GB designation 3Cr13). The nominal chemistry is as follows (the balance is iron): carbon (C) - 0.30% silicon (Si) - max. 1.0% chromium (Cr) -min. 13.0% manganese (Mn) - max.1.0% phosph. (P) max 0.04 % sulfur (S) - max. 0.03 % There is no aluminum.
