Rated 4 out of 5 by Arghlee from Works Good Not sure why all the negative comments either. I am an engineer with one of the top aerospace companies in the nation. I have this sharpener sitting on my desk and I use it daily. It works fine. As a matter of fact, people in the adjacent office come in and use my sharpener all the time. Possible explinations for the negative comments could be that the sharpener does stall if you push down too hard. Just enough pressure to get the motor going is enough. Anymore than that, and it will stop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kreit from How To Empty! Works great. Even the kids can't break it. However I could not figure out how to empty it. Jim 0319 noted "instructions were on the company website under "Frequently Asked Questions". When I looked at the FAQ, the visual aids were little help. It is actually just the top 1/4 inch that easily twists off, counterclockwise with no muscle use, just like Jim0319 said. And not the entire top. Took me a couple of minutes. But it twists off easily. Awesome sharpener, with three people in school, we use it daily.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Mrs.p from School Use Takes Its Toll I use this in my 3rd grade classroom. I bought it because my previous ipoint evolution stopped working after 2 years. After 3 weeks of school, this pencil sharpener has started making a loud clicking noise and won't sharpen our pencils. I am terribly dissapointed since my other sharpener lasted 2 years. I don't know what to do to fix it since it broke after normal use! The only reason this got 3 stars is because my previous model lasted for 2 school years of daily use!

Rated 4 out of 5 by Russ from Gets To The Point Not sure why reviews say this doesn't work at all -- has worked on a variety of colored art and #2 pencils just fine. I think the trick is to push gently so as not to break off any of the pencil which would prevent it from getting to the point. I've pushed gently until I stop feeling resistance and it's been perfectly sharp every time. The one challenge was figuring out how to open the darn thing--had I not resorted to the internet, I would have broken it with one more try...completely not-intuitive design. If you want people to unscrew the top, you need to make affordances so people know how to use it, e.g. put vertical lines around the lid to make it look like a lid and clear that it should be twisted. A pencil sharpener shouldn't require a manual, let alone an online FAQ.

Rated 3 out of 5 by Dara from Disappointed by lack of disassembly We've had one of these a few years ago and it just conked out. I could feel the tip of the pencil break off and jam in the bottom so I'm pretty sure that is the problem but there is no way to take the blade assembly apart and make sure nothing is stuck and not ejecting into the normal area you empty. I'm kind of tired of stuff made in China that is snapped or glued together to save a dollar or two - if they used screws and a more repairable assembly, I'd be a lot happier with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by SPM214 from Love this sharpener, but not built to last! I bought this pencil sharpener and fell in love with it. It is fast and leaves your pencil really sharp! However, it stopped working after just a few uses. I REALLY liked this sharpener so I decided to buy another. Well, another turned into 3 more. Sadly, EACH one has stopped working after short use. It is very disappointing, and at this point, I won't be purchasing again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Monte The Copyeditor from Works Great For Me! I don't know how some people could rate this product so low. It works fine, and looks cool. I never have a problem with it. The only question I had was how to open it up to remove the shavings. Couldn't figure it out until I went online and read someone's comments. Turns out the top quarter inch is a neatly threaded cap! Just turn the cap, not the whole clear plastic bin.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Brad S from Only as good as the blade. I've had this product for a few years but use it very little. The blade is dull and the company does not make replacement blades available. Therefore the product is no better than a few uses and then throw it away. May as well buy a cheap manual sharpener. This is really sad becase the sharpener was designed to easily remove the blade and replace.

There is a broken off piece of lead in the bottom of the sharpener itself. How do I get it out?
Hi, Thanks for reaching out to us about your Westcott product. We are sorry to hear that you have experienced an issue. Our recommendation would be to try and tap the bottom of the sharpener while holding it upside down to try and get the lead out. If that does not work, then the best course of action would be to file a warranty claim. Please file a warranty claim with us at the below link: https://www.westcottbrand.com/contact-us/warranty-claims.html

My sharpener worked well for a couple of years, but now it keeps grinding off the tips of my pencils instead of sharpening them. Before when this happened I removed small pieces of lead and it worked again, but I cannot get it to sharpen anymore.
